  • 50 rounds of ammunition for the Pistol or Revolver you will be using
  • Eye Protection
  •  Ear protection – preferably electronic so you can hear my instructions easier
  • Ball cap
  • Shoes or boots – no open toes, no sandals, no flip flops, no slides, no crocks
  • $50 – cost for shooting qualification by Reverend Brad, a Texas DPS Certified LTC Instructor

Active Military or Honorably Discharged are EXEMPT from the Proficiency Demonstration if you submit supporting documents with your application to Texas DPS with either your range scores or proof of firearms proficiency/familiarization with a rifle, long gun, or handgun. Documents must be within 10 years preceding your application for a Texas LTC. You are still required to complete an LTC class or online course.

After successfully completing both parts of the online course, participants need to follow the prescribed steps to submit their LTC application to the Texas DPS.

Private Lessons: Building Confidence from the Basics

Looking to go beyond the LTC requirements? My private lessons are tailored for beginner shooters who want a solid foundation without being overwhelmed. We start slow—assuming zero prior knowledge—so everyone leaves feeling empowered, not intimidated. These one-on-one sessions are held in a safe, controlled range environment.

Progress is key: We only move forward when you feel comfortable and confident.

Our Beginner-Focused Curriculum

We’ll break it down step by step, adjusting to your pace:

Pistol Fundamentals: We’ll demystify the handgun from the inside out. Learn the basic functions—how the slide cycles, what happens during recoil, and why the trigger pull matters—so you’re never caught off guard when the shot breaks.

Core Shooting Mechanics:

  • Stance and Grip: Find your natural, stable position to absorb recoil without strain.
  • Sight Picture: Align those sights like a pro, every time.
  • Breath, Hold, and Trigger Control: Master the subtle arts of steady breathing, minimizing wobble, and a smooth trigger press.

Overcoming the Flinch: First live fire is exciting—and a little scary! We’ll ease into it with low-pressure drills, helping you build familiarity until the bang feels like just another part of the process.

Tactical Essentials (Once You’re Comfortable):

  • Reloading: Practice smooth magazine changes while staying on target.
  • Clearing Stoppages and Malfunctions: Quick fixes for jams, so you’re never stuck in a bind.
  • Holster Draw: Essential for Texas concealed carry—safe, efficient draws from your holster, emphasizing retention and control.

Each lesson builds on the last, with plenty of positive reinforcement and real-world tips. Sessions are flexible: 1 hour minimum, or package deals for ongoing progress.
